God Wants You Healthy and Whole

3. The Big Question—Why?

If God Almighty wants us healthy and whole, why are so many of His children suffering with sicknesses, diseases, pains, and infirmities? If God, the Creator of the universe, wants me well, why am I not well?

The answer: I don’t know. The problem of evil and suffering is one of the great mysteries of life.

However, while there are things we do not fully understand, God has not left us without clear revelation. Through His Word, and through the life of Jesus, He has made His will known. As we continue this study, it becomes clear that God not only wants us well, but has actually already provided healing through Christ.

It is also important to understand that God’s will does not automatically come to pass in every person’s life.

1 Timothy 2:3-4

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering towards us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Matthew 7:13-14

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

God clearly desires all people to be saved and to come to repentance. Yet Jesus Himself said that many go through the wide gate that leads to destruction, while few find the way that leads to life. This shows that God’s will is not always automatically fulfilled in a person’s life.

Scripture reveals several reasons why this can happen. A few include:

  • Some people are ignorant of God’s Word and have not heard the truth clearly (Romans 10:13-17).

  • Some have been affected by wrong teaching, traditions of men, and doctrines that make the Word of God of no effect (Mark 7:6-13).

  • Others simply reject God’s will for themselves (Luke 7:30; John 5:39-40).

Therefore, the fact that something has not come to pass does not necessarily prove that it is not God’s will. Not everyone is saved, even though God desires all to be saved. In the same way, the fact that some people remain sick does not prove that God wants them sick.

We must not let Satan get us to question or doubt the love and goodness of God. The enemy is a liar who comes to deceive us, but even in the midst of suffering, let us trust the Lord.

John 8:44

... He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

Ephesians 6:11-12

Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

2 Corinthians 5:7

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

As we continue to read and study Scripture, let us open our hearts and intentionally make the decision to allow ourselves to believe that God is good, that what He revealed through Jesus is in fact true, and that He wants us well.

This foundational truth must be firmly established: it is always God’s will to heal. This is His true nature.
